Moong Daal Ka Halwa

Popular both in Rajasthan and other parts of North India, the Moong Dal Halwa is a rich and decadent Indian dessert made with moong lentils, ghee, milk, sugar, fragrant flavorings and nuts

The richness of this Moong Dal Halwa recipe makes it a perfect dish to keep the body warm during the extreme winters of Northern India. It is a bit heavy, but you really can’t miss trying on this special halwa preparation. I’ll also suggest that you run an extra mile after having it!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup yellow Moong Dal
  • A few saffron (Kesar) strands
  • 1 warm Milk
  • 1/2 cup Ghee
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Elaichi powder

For The Garnish

  • 2 tbsp Almonds Slivers
Method:
  1. To make Moong Dal Ka Halwa, Soak The
    Yellow Moong Dal in enough water for 3
    hours. Drain well.
  2. Rinse the moong dal and soak for 2 hours
  3. Blend to a slightly coarse paste adding water.
    if required. keep aside
  4. In a large kadai heat ½ cup ghee and add 1
    tbsp rava.
  5. Roast on low flame until the rava turns
    aromatic. adding rava helps to give good
    texture to halwa
  6. Now add in prepared moong dal paste and
    mix well.
  7. keeping the flame on medium, mix until the
    moong dal absorbs the ghee.
  8. continue to cook breaking the lumpsÿ
  9. Cook until the mixture turns crumble and
    grainy texture.
  10. After 20 minutes, the mixture turns crisp.
